This course provides the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to maintain a chainsaw and crosscut timber safely and to industry standards, in line with current legislation.  The C&G NPTC practical assessment takes place on a separate day.

Topics covered include: Risk assessment and emergency planning, Relevant legislation and industry best practice, Manufacturer recommendations for chainsaw maintenance, Maintenance of battery‑powered machines, Identification and function of individual components, Guide bar and chain maintenance, Reassembling the chainsaw and cutting system, Waste disposal and environmental considerations, Personal protective equipment (PPE), Biosecurity measures, Safe crosscutting techniques, Moving and stacking timber, Working methods and operational considerations.

To achieve this qualification candidates must successfully complete a one‑to‑one practical assessment with oral questioning, carried out by a City & Guilds NPTC approved assessor.
