Course Overview:
Unit 290 – Operating Mounted, Trailed and Self Propelled Hydraulic Nozzle or Rotary Atomiser Horizontal Boom Sprayers PA2A
This one‑day training course provides the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to apply pesticides using a self‑propelled, mounted or trailed horizontal boom sprayer. The C&G NPTC practical assessment takes place on a separate day.
The course ensures operators can work safely, efficiently and in full compliance with current legislation and industry best practice. Topics covered include: Legislative and safety requirements, Environmental factors and protection of water, wildlife and people, Reading and interpreting product labels and application information, Preparing, setting up and calibrating the applicator, Operating the boom sprayer safely and effectively, Post‑operational cleaning, maintenance and record keeping.
To achieve this qualification candidates must successfully complete a one‑to‑one practical assessment with oral questioning, carried out by a City & Guilds NPTC approved assessor.
Prerequisites:
Potential candidates must have successfully completed:
Level 2 Award in The Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides
Capable of reading and interpreting product label information, calculating formulae with the use of a calculator and able to safely operate the boom sprayer vehicle.
Location:
Training and assessment will take place at your premises using your own equipment, each course can accommodate up to 4 candidates.
Duration:
Total 2 days (One-day training plus assessment on a separate day)
Cost:
Bookings of up to 3 candidates £1,120 + £120 vat = £1,240
Bookings for 4 candidates £1,500 + £120 vat = £1,620
Given the unique setup of each sprayer, we recommend gaining hands‑on experience with your specific machine under the guidance of your current operator or equipment supplier. This ensures you are familiar with its controls, calibration process and operational characteristics. Once you are confident in its use, we can arrange your City & Guilds NPTC assessment. Lantra Awards certification is also available.
