Course Overview:

Unit 222 – Prepare and Operate a Manually Fed Woodchipper

The course is designed for professionals in arboriculture, forestry and other land-based industries. One-day training and assessment provides the knowledge, understanding and skills required to use a woodchipper safely and to industry standards in line with current legislation. Topics covered include risk assessment, emergency planning, industry best practice, environmental considerations, pre-start checks, site preparation and safe use.

To gain this qualification delivered by a City & Guilds NPTC approved assessor, candidates must successfully complete a one-to-one practical assessment with oral questioning.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Safety helmet complying with BS EN 397
Hearing protection complying with BS EN 352
Eye protection/ mesh visor complying with BS EN 1731
Gloves with long, close-fitting cuffs that can be tucked into sleeves to protect hands against flying debris
Non snag outer clothing (preferably high vis)
Safety boots with good grip and ankle support complying with BS EN 345-1
