Course Overview:

Unit 222 – Prepare and Operate a Manually Fed Woodchipper

This course is for individuals who operate woodchippers as part of their work in arboriculture, forestry or other industries. One-day training and assessment provides the knowledge, understanding and skills required to use a woodchipper safely and to industry standards in line with current legislation. Topics covered include risk assessment, emergency planning, industry best practice, environmental considerations, pre-start checks, site preparation and safe use.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Safety helmet complying with BS EN 397
• Hearing protection complying with BS EN 352
• Eye protection/ mesh visor complying with BS EN 1731
• Gloves with long, close-fitting cuffs that can be tucked into sleeves to protect hands against flying debris
• Non snag outer clothing
• Safety boots with good grip and ankle support complying with BS EN 345-1
