Course Overview:
Unit 222 – Prepare and Operate a Manually Fed Woodchipper
The course is designed for professionals in arboriculture, forestry and other land-based industries. One-day training and assessment provides the knowledge, understanding and skills required to use a woodchipper safely and to industry standards in line with current legislation. Topics covered include risk assessment, emergency planning, industry best practice, environmental considerations, pre-start checks, site preparation and safe use.
To gain this qualification delivered by a City & Guilds NPTC approved assessor, candidates must successfully complete a one-to-one practical assessment with oral questioning.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Safety helmet complying with BS EN 397
- Hearing protection complying with BS EN 352
- Eye protection/ mesh visor complying with BS EN 1731
- Gloves with long, close-fitting cuffs that can be tucked into sleeves to protect hands against flying debris
- Non snag outer clothing (preferably high vis)
- Safety boots with good grip and ankle support complying with BS EN 345-1
