Course Overview:

This course is designed for operators with prior experience, or those who already hold certification in chainsaw maintenance and crosscutting; novice operators may require further training.

One-day training combines hands-on practical instruction with essential health and safety guidance.  It also provides evidence that you and your employer have undertaken appropriate training to comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). Topics covered include safety features, maintenance of the chain, guide bar and engine, pre-use checks, assessment of the work area, and pruning saw checks.

Candidates should have their own equipment and PPE compliant with current CE/EN standards.  If this presents a problem, please let us know well in advance of the training so suitable arrangements can be made ensuring the equipment is available.

Equipment:

• Powered pole pruner with relevant operator’s manual (paper or electronic copy)
• Maintenance tools and sharpening kit eg files, file guide, depth gauge tool
• First aid kit
• Fuel and  biodegradable chainsaw oil in approved container(s)

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Safety helmet complying with BS EN 397 or BS EN 12492
• Hearing protection complying with BS EN 352
• Eye protection/ mesh visor complying with BS EN 166
• Gloves – adequate to protect hands against flying debris
• Non snag outer clothing (preferably high vis to EN471)
• Steel toe capped boots
