Course Overview:

Unit 201 – 001 Trimmer and 002 Brushcutter

This course is for individuals who operate brushcutters and trimmers as part of their work. One-day training and assessment provides the knowledge, understanding and skills required to use brushcutters and trimmers safely and to industry standards in line with current legislation. Topics covered include health and safety, risk assessment, site preparation, machine maintenance, pre-start checks and safe operation.

Course Objectives:

1. Produce a site-specific Risk Assessment
2. Understand the PPE required
3. Know the health and safety features on a strimmer and brushcutter
4. Detect defects on the equipment
5. Carry out routine maintenance
6. Use the correct fuel/oil mix
7. Start equipment from both hot and cold
8. Carry out pre-cutting checks
9. Know the potential hazards/risks when operating or maintaining
10. Maintain the strimmer/brushcutter and cutting heads
11. Make adjustments to the equipment
12. Select the correct cutting head for the relevant operating conditions
13. Organise the site and use a systematic method of working where possible.
