Unit 210 – Operate a Handheld Hedgecutter

This course is for individuals who operate handheld hedgecutters as part of their work, either in agriculture, horticulture, landscaping, arboriculture or forestry. One-day training and assessment provides the knowledge, understanding and skills required to prepare and operate a handheld hedgecutter safely and to industry standards in line with current legislation. Topics covered include pre-start checks and maintenance, identification of controls and instruments and safe operation.

Course Objectives:

1. Deliver a site-specific risk assessment for hedgecutter operations
2. Know the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
3. Know the health and safety features of a hedgecutter
4. Understand hedge trimmer defects and when it needs an engineer’s service
5. Carry out routine maintenance to manufacturer’s workbook
6. Prepare trimmer with correct fuel/oil mix
7. Start the trimmer from hot and cold
8. State maintenance and operational hazards
9. Adjustment of trimmer for safe and comfortable usage
10. Operate the hedgecutter in a safe manner
