This three‑day training course provides the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to fell medium trees over 380mm and up to 760mm safely and to industry standards, in line with current legislation. The C&G NPTC practical assessment takes place on a separate day.
Advance your felling skills by learning specialist techniques for handling chainsaws in medium‑size trees using a maximum guide bar of 15 inch. In these situations, the bar is fully concealed within the stem, requiring significantly greater precision to ensure the felling cuts meet accurately inside the tree.
Topics covered include: Risk assessment and emergency planning, Relevant legislation and industry best practice, Environmental considerations, Recognition of disease, decay, and structural defects, Modification of felling methods to suit conditions, Setting up supports and establishing safe working positions, Felling techniques and felling cuts, Pre‑start checks and site preparation, Dealing with hung‑up trees using a winch.
To achieve this qualification candidates must successfully complete a one‑to‑one practical assessment with oral questioning, carried out by a City & Guilds NPTC approved assessor.
